Doctor sentenced to 15 years in prison in Kushtia drug case

The Kushtia court has sent a doctor to 15 years of prison time in an alleged drug case that was filed in the year 2015.

Kushtia Additional District Judge and Sessions Judge Tajul Islam handed down the verdict in the case of Asaduzzaman Firoz, former medical official of the Bheramara Upazila Health Complex, according to our Kushtia reporter.

The inmate was punished Tk 50k in addition for non-payment. In the event of default, the prisoner will be sentenced to another year in prison.

As per the prosecutor Asaduzzaman was arrested on September 13, 2015 was detained together with two friends with 2,000 pieces yaba pills taken from an industrial sawmill located in the Zia Road area of Mirpur upazila.

A investigation was initiated against the trio in the Narcotics Control Act at Mirpur Police Station of the Upazila that same night.

Sub-inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain of the police station on the 12th of January in 2016, filed the charge document naming Asaduzzaman as the main suspect. The two other suspects were cleared by the judge.
